Session 1 - October 3, 2020

Page history last edited by Bolthy 3 years, 6 months ago

The local baron, Burbridge, has put the group in charge of a minor glade called "The Stage". There's a lot of things that can go wrong, and the baron wants to make sure that the minor places of magic are not neglected. The group is expected to respect the changeling laws, including those of hospitality.

The session opens in August, heading into September of 2019. Burbridge meets the group at a coffee shop called the XY where Burbridge formally asks them to protect the place. The group caravans to the site to review it.

Some of the group notices that Burbridge carries a large viking-style hammer with runes on it that are quickly covered up by Burbridge's coat. The back of the Stage looks like a theater, and as he approaches a seat rises up. As the city lights come on, the stage looks perfectly lit by fireflies and stars.

The group ponders whether or not a show can be performed there. In general it's very small and the cops would be called quickly by the locals. But it's a threshold into the Near Dreaming, and once inside the Dreaming a much bigger show could be done.

Ram tries to get a better look at the hammer, but can only tell that it's not nocker made. The group does a variation on the Oath of the Accepted Burden. The group has a sudden deeper appreciation for the space. Carmen gets a better sense of the neighborhood with her Boggan nature. Ram notices that the oath is sealed with the hammer, lending it gravity. Penny notices that the oath was an unusual choice, and it seems that he's sharing a portion of his oath with the group.

The baron invites the group to dinner, and invites Carmen to ride with him. They go to Burbridge's favorite Italian restaurant. On the drive over, Burbridge asks Carmen if she can help with getting Ram into school.

When the group arrives, they are dubious about seating such a large group. Burbridge name drops the chef's name, which gets them a table in a back room next to kitchen. The chef, Frederico, is a boggan.

At the table Ram works on jury-rigging a radio to be able to remote-control the car. Jemmers tries to get the baron drunk but only succeeeds in getting himself drunk. Carmen floats the idea of having paperwork to prove that Ram has a legal guardian.

The baron changes the topic to the group being a part of the court of the Inland Empire, there will be more attention on them.

The baron toasts the band. When Frederico learns that the group is a band, he asks that they perform. The group is invited back at any time.

Afterwards, Ram goes to test her new remote control. Greg goes to check the security options for the Stage. Jemmers and Molly continue a bar crawl, which consists of last call and the Steer 'N Stein and Denny's.

The Denny's is a bad and banal scene, which brings down Jemmers. Molly checks for an omen in her coffee, and it's a bad sign. They decide to bug out just as a couple of dark fae roll into the bar: a redcap named Kir-ton and a sluagh named Scotty Potty.

Greg is a little behind the rest of the group, settling up the tab, and turns and runs into them. Greg gets out-muscled by Kir-ton. The group escapes the Denny's without further incident.

The next day, Carmen calls her ex, Nacho, to try and get some sort of documentation for Ram. He isn't able to help, but can make an arrangement with CPS as a "get out of juvie (once)" card.
